I am completely and utterly opposed to animal abuse. However I am a carnivore. An animal based diet is the optimal diet for a human being. Agricultural practices and the actual consumption of meat are two separate issues. The mistake vegans make is basing their nutritional intake upon ethics, not science.

It was a good debate, where I feel it fell short was not rebutting Ben’s point about not being able to feed a plant based population. Theres enough plants produced to feed the billions of animals in factory farm situations. It’s know that around seventy five percent of land would freed by eliminating animal agriculture. Look at soy for example, six percent goes to feeding humans, a lager percentage is used for biofuels, the rest goes to feeding animals. This is happening with omnivorous farming practises and there’s much better systems that can be implemented. The not enough plants to feed everyone or the need for more farmland is all false.

I’m a vegetarian solely because of factory farming. If we raised and consumed meat like we did for most of human history (preferably treating the animals a lot nicer) I probably would eat meat on occasion.
